DHSC publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research that applies computational methods to humanities and social science problems. We welcome submissions that demonstrate innovative approaches to understanding human culture, society, and behavior through digital technologies.

Article Types
Original Research
Full-length articles presenting original research findings. Word limit: 8,000-12,000 words.
Review Articles
Comprehensive reviews of current research in specific fields. Word limit: 10,000-15,000 words.
Short Communications
Brief reports of significant findings or methodological advances. Word limit: 3,000-5,000 words.
Case Studies
Detailed case studies of digital humanities projects or applications. Word limit: 6,000-8,000 words.
Methodological Papers
Papers describing new computational methods or tools. Word limit: 6,000-10,000 words.
Perspectives
Opinion pieces and commentary on current issues. Word limit: 2,000-4,000 words.
Submission Process
- Initial Submission: Submit your manuscript through our online submission system. All manuscripts are initially screened by the editorial office for compliance with journal guidelines.
- Editorial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor will assess the manuscript for suitability and originality.
- Peer Review: Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment will be sent to at least two independent reviewers for double-blind peer review.
- Decision: The editor will make a decision based on the reviewers' comments. Decisions include: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject.
- Revision: Authors are invited to revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers' comments.
- Final Approval: Revised manuscripts are re-evaluated by the editor and reviewers.
- Publication: Accepted manuscripts are copyedited, typeset, and published online immediately.
Article Processing Charges (APC)
Special Launch Offer: $490 USD (Regular APC: $790 USD)
This offer is valid for all manuscripts submitted before December 31, 2026.
The APC covers all costs associated with the publication process, including peer review management, copyediting, typesetting, digital archiving, and permanent open access. There are no additional submission fees or page charges.

Data & Code Sharing Policy
DHSC is committed to transparency and reproducibility in research. All authors are required to make the data and code underlying their findings publicly available upon publication, unless there are compelling ethical or legal reasons not to do so.
- All datasets must be deposited in a public repository with a permanent DOI
- All custom code must be deposited in a public repository with a permanent DOI
- Detailed documentation and README files must be provided
- All preprocessing steps and parameters must be clearly described
- Exceptions may be granted for sensitive or proprietary data
Publication Ethics
DHSC adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics. We follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
- All manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere
- All authors must have made significant contributions to the work
- All sources must be properly cited and acknowledged
- Competing interests must be disclosed
- Ethical approval must be obtained for research involving human or animal subjects
- Plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of misconduct are not tolerated

What is the peer review process?
DHSC uses a double-blind peer review process, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to each other.
Do I need to format my manuscript before submission?
Initial submissions do not need to be strictly formatted according to our guidelines. However, accepted manuscripts will need to be formatted according to our author guidelines before publication.
Can I submit a preprint?
Yes, DHSC accepts submissions of manuscripts that have been posted on preprint servers such as arXiv or SSRN.
How long does the publication process take?
The average time from submission to first decision is 4 weeks. Accepted manuscripts are published online within 2 weeks of final approval.
