Author Guidelines

These guidelines outline the standards for preparing and submitting manuscripts to Prime Academic Press, including monographs, edited volumes, and conference proceedings across all our book series. All submissions must adhere to these requirements to ensure editorial efficiency, peer review quality, and publication readiness. Please review these guidelines carefully before submitting your work.

1. Manuscript Eligibility & Submission Types

Prime Academic Press accepts the following types of works, provided they meet our academic standards:

  • Research Monographs: Original, single-author works presenting significant, unpublished research contributions to a field.
  • Edited Volumes: Themed collections of peer-reviewed chapters from multiple authors, edited by one or more scholars.
  • Conference Proceedings: Peer-reviewed collections of papers presented at academic conferences, with clear editorial oversight.

All submissions must be original, not under consideration by another publisher, and free from prior full publication.

2. Manuscript Structure

All manuscripts must include the following core components, organized in the order below:

  1. Title Page: Full book title, subtitle (if applicable), author/editor names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, and corresponding author contact information.
  2. Abstract: A 150–300 word summary of the work’s core purpose, methods, key findings, and contributions to the field.
  3. Keywords: 3–5 relevant keywords or subject terms to support discoverability.
  4. Preface / Foreword (Optional): A brief contextual introduction to the work, or a foreword by a recognized scholar in the field.
  5. Main Text: Structured into chapters with clear, consistent headings and subheadings.
  6. References / Bibliography: A complete list of all cited works, formatted in accordance with the press’s specified citation style.
  7. Appendices (Optional): Supplementary materials such as datasets, interview protocols, or additional figures that support the main text.

3. Formatting Standards

To ensure consistency across all publications, please adhere to the following formatting requirements:

  • File Format: Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX (.tex) format; PDF is only accepted for supplementary materials.
  • Font & Spacing: Use a clear, legible font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12pt; or Arial, 11pt) with double line spacing throughout the main text.
  • Page Margins: Set 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides of the document.
  • Headings: Use a consistent hierarchical structure for chapter titles, section headings, and subheadings (e.g., Heading 1 for chapters, Heading 2 for sections).
  • Page Numbering: Include page numbers at the bottom of each page, aligned to the center or right.

4. Citation & Reference Standards

Prime Academic Press recommends the APA 7th Edition style for citations and references, though Chicago Notes and Bibliography style is also accepted for humanities works. All citations must be complete, accurate, and consistent throughout the manuscript.

APA 7th Edition Examples:

  • Book Reference: Author Last, First Initial(s). (Year). Title of book. Publisher Name. DOI or URL
  • Journal Article Reference: Author Last, First Initial(s), Author Last, First Initial(s). (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, Volume(Issue), Page range. https://doi.org/xxxx.xxxx/xxxx
  • In-Text Citation: (Author Last, Year) or Author Last (Year) noted in the text.

All works cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the text.

5. Figures, Tables & Visual Materials

  • All figures, tables, charts, and images must be numbered sequentially (e.g., Figure 1, Table 1) with clear, descriptive captions.
  • Visual materials must be high-resolution (minimum 300 DPI) to ensure clarity in both print and digital formats.
  • All figures and tables must be explicitly cited in the main text (e.g., “See Table 1 for a summary of results”).
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission to reuse any copyrighted visual materials from third-party sources.
  • Submit high-resolution figures as separate files (e.g., .png, .jpg) alongside the main manuscript.

6. Ethics & Academic Integrity

All submissions must comply with the highest standards of academic ethics:

  • Manuscripts must be free from plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or any form of academic misconduct.
  • Research involving human participants, animal subjects, or sensitive data must include proof of ethics committee approval and informed consent, where required.
  • All co-authors must have made significant contributions to the work and approved the final version of the manuscript prior to submission.

7. Copyright & Open Access Licensing

All works published by Prime Academic Press are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which allows others to share and adapt the work as long as appropriate credit is given. Authors retain copyright of their work, with non-exclusive publication rights granted to the press.

Authors must confirm that all third-party materials included in the manuscript are either in the public domain, available under a compatible open license, or used with explicit written permission from the copyright holder.

8. Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process:

  • Submissions are first screened by the editorial team for compliance with these guidelines and the press’s scope.
  • Eligible manuscripts are sent to two or more independent peer reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.
  • Reviewers’ comments are anonymized, and authors will receive a detailed review report with a decision (accept, revise, or reject).
  • Authors must address all reviewer comments thoroughly in their revised submission, including a point-by-point response letter.

9. Post-Acceptance & Publication

Once a manuscript is accepted for publication:

  • Authors will work with the editorial team to finalize the manuscript, including copyediting, proofreading, and layout adjustments.
  • Authors will receive page proofs for final review before publication.
  • All works are published as open access, available globally via the Prime Academic Press platform and major academic databases.
  • Authors will receive a copy of the published book and promotional materials upon request.
