About the Journal
Digital Art & New Media Studies (DANMS) is a newly launched, peer-reviewed open access journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of digital art, new media practice, and critical technology studies. As a global platform for academic dialogue, DANMS bridges theoretical inquiry and creative practice, welcoming contributions from scholars, artists, technologists, and cultural critics across all regions and disciplinary backgrounds.

Our mission is to foster rigorous, inclusive, and accessible research that explores the cultural, aesthetic, ethical, and political dimensions of digital art and new media. We envision DANMS as a leading open access hub for interdisciplinary exchange, challenging traditional boundaries between art practice, media theory, and technology studies. By prioritizing diverse voices and global perspectives, we aim to shape the future of critical discourse in digital culture.
2. Scope & Thematic Focus
DANMS welcomes original research, practice-based studies, critical essays, and review pieces across the following thematic areas:
- Digital art history and contemporary practice (generative art, live coding, net art, etc.)
- New media theory and post-digital aesthetics
- XR/VR/AR/immersive art and interactive media
- Computational creativity, AI art, and algorithmic culture
- Media archaeology and the cultural politics of digital technology
- Ethics, labor, and power in digital art ecosystems
- Cross-cultural and decolonial approaches to digital art
- Curatorial practice and preservation of new media art
3. Publication Model & Editorial Ethics
DANMS operates on a fully open access model, ensuring all published research is freely accessible to readers worldwide. Key features of our publication framework include:
- Double-blind peer review process managed by a diverse, international editorial team
- All articles published under the CC BY 4.0 license for maximum reuse and citation
- No submission fees; Article Processing Charges (APC) apply only after acceptance ($490 USD launch rate / $790 USD standard rate)
- Adherence to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) standards for all editorial workflows
- Commitment to transparency, including open data and reproducibility guidelines for computational art research
4. Target Audience & Community
DANMS serves a global community of scholars, practicing artists, curators, technologists, educators, and students engaged with digital art and new media.
