We welcome high-quality, original research that advances understanding of global governance challenges and sustainable development solutions. Below you will find all the information you need to prepare and submit your manuscript.
Submission Overview
- All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process
- Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
- We accept submissions year-round on a rolling basis
- Average time from submission to first decision: 4-6 weeks
- Average time from acceptance to publication: 2-3 weeks
Manuscript Types
Original Research Articles
8,000-12,000 words (including references and appendices). Presents original empirical or theoretical research on global governance and sustainable development topics.
Review Articles
10,000-15,000 words. Provides a comprehensive, critical synthesis of existing literature on a specific topic, identifying research gaps and future directions.
Policy Briefs
3,000-5,000 words. Translates academic research into actionable policy recommendations for policymakers and practitioners.
Commentaries & Perspectives
1,500-3,000 words. Presents timely, opinionated analysis of current events, emerging trends, or debates in the field.
APC & Open Access Policy
Global Governance & Sustainable Development is a fully open access journal. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY), making them freely available to readers worldwide immediately upon publication.
Article Processing Charge (APC)
- Early Bird Rate: $490 USD for all submissions received before December 31, 2026
- Standard Rate: $690 USD effective January 1, 2027
The APC covers the costs of peer review management, editorial processing, copyediting, typesetting, long-term digital preservation, and worldwide open access distribution. No submission fees or page charges apply.
Peer Review Process
- Initial Screening: The Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial assessment to ensure the manuscript fits the journal's scope and meets basic quality standards.
- Double-Blind Review: Manuscripts that pass screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the subject area. Reviewers and authors remain anonymous to each other.
- Decision: Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject.
- Revision: Authors are typically given 4-6 weeks to revise and resubmit their manuscripts.
- Final Approval: Revised manuscripts are re-evaluated by the editorial board before final acceptance.
- Publication: Accepted manuscripts are copyedited, typeset, and published online in the next available issue.
Publication Ethics
This journal adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics and follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. All authors must agree to the following:
- Manuscripts must be original and not submitted to more than one journal simultaneously
- All authors listed have made a significant contribution to the research and approve the final manuscript
- All sources of funding and potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed
- Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification of data, and inappropriate authorship are strictly prohibited
- Authors must obtain written permission to reproduce any copyrighted material
Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
- Manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX (.tex) format
- Use 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all sides
- Include a structured abstract of 150-250 words, followed by 3-5 keywords
- Number all pages consecutively
- References should follow the APA 7th Edition style (see examples below)
- Tables and figures should be embedded in the manuscript, with clear captions
- Remove all identifying information from the manuscript to ensure double-blind review
- A separate title page should include the full title, author names, affiliations, and corresponding author contact information
Graphical Abstract & Supplementary Materials
Graphical Abstract (Optional but Recommended)
Authors are encouraged to submit a graphical abstract that summarizes the main findings of their article in a single visual. The graphical abstract should:
- Be submitted as a separate file in JPG or PNG format
- Have a resolution of at least 300 DPI
- Be no larger than 10 MB
- Include a short descriptive caption (1-2 sentences)
- Be original and not contain any copyrighted material
Supplementary Materials
Supplementary materials (e.g., additional figures, tables, datasets, code, videos) that support the main findings but are not essential for understanding the article may be submitted as separate files. All supplementary materials will be peer-reviewed and published alongside the main article.
- Each supplementary file should be clearly labeled (e.g., Supplementary Table 1, Supplementary Figure 1)
- All supplementary materials must be cited in the main text
- Datasets should be deposited in a public repository (e.g., Figshare, Zenodo) and include a DOI

A: Yes. Authors retain full copyright of their work and grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish it under the CC BY 4.0 license.
Q: How many times can I revise my manuscript?
A: Typically, authors are given one opportunity to revise their manuscript. In exceptional cases, a second revision may be requested.
Q: Can I request specific reviewers for my manuscript?
A: Yes. You may suggest up to 3 potential reviewers during the submission process. The editorial board will consider your suggestions but is not obligated to use them.
Q: What if my manuscript is rejected?
A: Rejected manuscripts may be resubmitted after significant revision, or authors may choose to submit their work to another journal. We provide detailed reviewer comments to help authors improve their manuscripts.
